Course Description

Overview

Explore how to integrate CBCT imaging, digital scanning, and 3D printing using open-source software and professional dental printers to design and fabricate implant surgical guides, bite appliances, and clear aligner systems. This hands-on course reveals how modern clinicians can harness free, high-performance digital tools to achieve precision, efficiency, and control—without reliance on costly proprietary systems.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to independently acquire and process CBCT and intraoral scan data, plan implant and orthodontic treatments, and design and produce implant surgical guides, bite appliances, and clear aligners using free/open-source software and dental 3D printers — following clinical safety, quality-control, and post-processing best practices.

Objectives

1. Explain the principles of CBCT imaging relevant to digital implant and orthodontic workflows

2. Utilize open-source and free digital design software to plan implant placement and design custom surgical guides

3. Design and fabricate occlusal bite appliances and night guards

4. Plan and stage tooth movements for clear aligner therapy

5. Select and optimize 3D printing parameters, materials, and post-processing methods

6. Discuss the regulatory, ethical, and infection-control considerations for in-office manufacturing of medical devices

7. Boost confidence in anterior implants with immediate loading
